Nobu Ryokan Malibu (California)

Located on the famed Carbon Beach, Nobu Ryokan Malibu opens following an extensive renovation of the 1950s-era beach motel Casa Malibu. An exclusive, modern hideaway, Nobu Ryokan Malibu is the first of the Nobu Ryokan Collection – individual and exclusive retreats located in exotic destinations and gateway cities, where guests seek luxurious sanctuaries in discerning environments.

Blending the minimalist aesthetic of ryokans, or traditional Japanese inns, with the cool elegance of the California coastline, the property balances the flow of energy, neutral color palette and organic materials. A rich, natural material palette of teak, bronze and limestone is carried throughout the interior and exterior to create the feeling of Omotenashi, the Japanese art of hospitality.

Each of the property’s 12 rooms and 5 oceanfront bungalows were individually- designed to offer a unique guest experience. Natural California views are combined with Japanese design elements such as tatami mats, shoji screens, sand- colored limestone walls and hand-crafted teak soaking tubs placed beneath skylights to create an ambiance of tranquility and relaxation.

In-room dining consists of a custom crafted menu by Nobu. A breakfast and All Day Dining menu can be served in room or out on our Relaxation Deck which overlooks Carbon Beach. Guests are also able to order their favorites from nearby Nobu Malibu restaurant over to the Ryokan for a more intimate setting.

Concierge at Nobu Ryokan Malibu is able to custom craft experiences – from dining to wellness and local activities. Learn to surf from a Hollywood surf instructor, or hike up into the Santa Monica mountains and explore all of the local flora and fauna. Head to a nearby beach with picnic items from our Nobu chefs or take out our paddles boards out and explore the Malibu Coastline.
